I've turned into this hormonal woman who chokes up, tears up and cries over the silliest things which range from overdone french fries, tv shows, and the pet parade. I sometimes feel like I'm having this out of body experience where I'm like "who are you?" It's very weird and quite honestly, a little scary.
I never thought I'd be one to have cravings but sure enough Sunday night started the desire for Fish Tacos. Of all things, Fish Tacos! I'd never had one in my entire life. It didn't help that Throw Down with Bobby Flay featured the most awesome looking fish tacos that night. I live in Pittsburgh though. The Mexican population is about 100. There's no way in hell I'm going to get an authentic fish taco to save my life. However, my friend and her 4 month old baby stepped in this afternoon and met me at Mad Mex for their version of the taco. Although it was tasty, it ranked a 2 on the authenticity scale. But at least it soothed me for a while.
There's nothing much going on in the land of baby right now. We are just anxiously awaiting the time when we can find out the gender. In the meantime, I've researched car seats, strollers, and carriers. There are so many to choose from and it's very easy to get overwhelmed. This week's research will be focused on baby monitors. I've read that if you buy a certain kind on a certain frequency you can hear or see other people (who do not live in your home but rather in your neighborhood). The idea of that truly freaks me out. Several years ago, someone tried to break into our home while we were home and so the idea of someone knowing I am home alone with the baby is very scary. Any baby monitor suggestions are more than welcome.

Hormonal mood issues are now a huge part of life as you know it. And will be for a looong time. It doesn't end with birth, oh no. You just trade one set of hormones for another. I still cry about stupid commercials, and I'm in no way the 'weepy' type.
I just bought the plain old cheap Fisher Price monitor. It has 2 receivers, I keep one in the bathroom the other in the living room. Unnecessary, since my house is not a palatial mansion, and I can pretty much hear Farty fart from any room in the house. It has a belt clip, which would be great if my kid ever napped and I could hang clothes outside on the line. I haven't ever heard any neighbors' conversations on it, and I doubt they're hearing mine, or they'd have called my office to report a crazy woman!
In my humble opinion, I'd put the bulk of baby funds on a good carseat and a good diaper bag. I went thru 2 bags before finally just buying the one I really wanted from the start. (No, it wasn't the $500 Coach one, that was the one I really REALLY wanted:)
Good luck on selecting all of the gear needed for your little one. So exciting that you will soon be able to find out the gender!

i had the hormonal woman out of body experience several times. especially in the later days. i'm not the crying type and all of a sudden i'm whining like a bitch in ikea over a fucking poang chair. that was a new low. it goes away about 4 to 6 months after you have the babe. tell DP that so that she can prepare...
baby monitor. we never got one although i researched the shit out of them. actually kinda happy we never got around to purchasing one. GP was in the room with us for the majority of her first 3 months on earth. instead of monitoring her in other rooms, we just dragged her into the room we were in. we got a small bedside basinet so that we could wheel her from room to room if she was sleeping. i'm imagining a moses basket would serve the same purpose (put we have the pesky cat and dog and didn't want her on the floor).

Hormones are crazy things. When I was in the stimming phase of IVF, I got mad at Elizabeth for pouring me a glass of water when I already had one started. Crazy. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must be to remain balanced with actual pregnancy hormones in your system.
Good luck with the baby monitor search. I have no advice on which kind to buy. Though I did hear about one that picked up transmissions from NASA, you might want to avoid that one!

The baby monitor I keep going back and forth over after hearing on another board I visit a while ago, of how some women with the picture monitor would get their nabors child on the monitor instead of theirs. I remember when my mom was still a foster parent and we had a baby monitor and we would sometimes get my friends father's phone conversation. Really weird!

We're going with the angelcare monitor but I have to admit that we hadn't put much thought into it. I liked it because it had the movement monitor (which I've recently been warned can go off on its own).
Now I'm curious to go more in depth in my research. I would be freaked out if I heard our neighbors. No. Do not want that at all. I'm in an overcrowded condo complex so I'm sure the sounds would be numerous and colorful. Yikes!
Any thoughts on your car seat/stroller? We're thinking of going with the Peg Perago Pliko Switch or the Pliko P3.
we've had cheaper ones and never heard our neighbours. most come with 2 channels.
but if you get the more expensive one they lock onto their own channel (never use an existing one). you can multiple versions of these in the same house without interferring with each other. it's a specific technology 2.4GHz. They won't interfere with your cordless phones either.
